Job Summary:




Are you a medical professional with a sense of adventure and a passion for making a lasting impact? If so, explore the unique healthcare opportunities available as a Rural Generalist working for WA Country Health Service in the Kimberley Region. This is a recruitment pool to fill Permanent (Sessional, Part-Time or Full Time) or Fixed Term (Sessional, Part-Time or Full Time) appointments.

You'll tackle a wide variety of medical cases, from tropical medicine to acute and chronic conditions in both adults and children.



Reporting to the Senior Medical Officer at each site will ensure you have the guidance and mentorship to thrive.



You'll have access to resident specialists in person or via telehealth, and the WACHS Command Centre offer support with rapid care coordination and team leadership Emergency Medicine and Mental Health patients.



In this role you regularly collaborate with the Royal Flying Doctor Service which will hone your skills in patient retrieval and high-level care.



Location Details:





  1. Broome Hospital

    serves as the regional resource centre in the Kimberley Region.


    It boasts a comprehensive range of medical services, including a four-bed high dependency unit, 39 beds in medical, surgical, and maternity units, and additional specialized units such as a 10-bed paediatric unit and an eight-bed in-patient mental health unit.


    The hospital's emergency department is a bustling hub of activity, addressing a wide range of healthcare needs.


    Broome Hospital is well-equipped for surgical procedures, particularly in general surgery and gynaecology, with an annual delivery rate of approximately 350 babies.


    Dedicated resident specialist teams, including general surgeons, general physicians, paediatricians, psychiatrists, and gynaecologists provide comprehensive care to patients.




  2. Derby Hospital

    is located at the main access point to the famous Gibb River Road.


    The hospital's services include an emergency department, 22 acute care beds, and an additional four maternity beds complete with a birthing suite.


    District Medical Officers collaborate with rotating junior doctors to provide comprehensive healthcare services.




  3. Kununurra District Hospital

    is situated just 37 kilometres from the Northern Territory border.


    Kununurrar District Hospital primarily operates under the guidance of District Medical Officers.


    The hospital offers a total of 32 inpatient beds and extends its reach by providing clinics and telephone support to Wyndham and Halls Creek Hospitals, as well as to the Warman and Kalumburu communities.


    Kununurra delivers around 120 babies and does around 500 surgeries a year.




  4. Fitzroy Crossing Hospital

    is committed to delivering high-quality indigenous health services.


    The hospital offers modern facilities and a 12-bed facility to ensure the comfort and well-being of patients.


    The hospital provides essential healthcare services with its eight acute beds, four boarding beds, and a dedicated palliative care bed.


    Medical staff visit the community of Yiyili on a weekly basis, extending healthcare support beyond the hospital's premises.




  5. Wyndham Hospital

    serves a small population of approximately 900 residents.


    The hospital offers crucial healthcare services to the local community.
